The Pigeon Lake Buoy monitors water quality and weather at the lake's central basin. It collects and transmits data every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day, during the open-water season, when the buoy is deployed. The data are representative of the Pigeon Lake's open-water zone.
The buoy collects data via:
(1) A water quality "sonde", at 1-m depth, that measures water temperature, dissolved oxygen, specific conductance, pH, oxidation reduction potential (ORP), turbidity, chlorophyll, and phycocyanin;
(2) A water sensor "string" that measures water temperature at every meter of the water column and dissolved oxygen at the bottom three meters; and
(3) A weather station that measures air temperature, barometric pressure, relative humidity, and wind speed and direction.

The buoy was deployed June 10, 2024. Please be cautious around the buoy and report any issues to the Pigeon Lake Watershed Association email (see Contact Us at https://www.plwa.ca/contact-us).
